Message From the President

Faithful until the End! How one servant of God, faithfully equipped leaders for effective ministry even with his last breaths”

On May 17, 2019, Pastor Max Caindoy passed away and entered the presence of the Lord. I first met Pastor Max in 1987. He was leading a church in Deuro, Bohol, one town away from where we lived. Later he moved to the same town where we served. After his time there, he moved on to another town and pastored another church. We lost touch with each other for a while until the mid-1990s. He attended one of the first Teacher Training Workshops that I led in the Philippines.

His whole perspective on serving a church changed with that workshop. Instead of doing all the work of the ministry, he began training and equipping others to do the work of ministry. In the last church he started in Loon, Bohol, he trained a young man named Sammy to serve as the pastor. In June 2001, I invited him to join our small team of coordinators, along with me and Henry Ventura. For the next 4 years, Henry, Max, and Jun, accompanied me throughout the Philippines. We traveled together, ate together, stayed together, prayed together, laughed together, and served together.
Max served as the Central Visayas Coordinator for CCI. During his service, he trained over 400 local church leaders. More than 50 of them on their own initiative started local churches. Three of the areas where he devoted much of his time included Valencia, Talibon, and Tagbillaran, Bohol. It is obvious that he made a tremendous impact in the lives of those he trained.
Pastor Castor, an 83 year old farmer, teaches Bible studies, walking with his grandson for up to 8 miles (13 km). Fredo started a church in Albuquerque, Bohol. Fredo did lawn work for us while we lived in the Philippines and later served as the maintenance man for the church we started in Tagbilaran. He decided to attend Max’s trainings and God transformed his life and he went to Albuquerque and started a village church.
Max also trained 68 fishermen from the islands surrounding Talibon, Bohol. There are 26 islands surrounding Talibon. Max and these fishermen methodically planted churches on all these islands.  I had the privilege of visiting with many of these storm-tested men. The joy I experienced surpassed the tiring days of travel to reach there. On the last day of his life early in the morning at 6 am, Max taught them for 30 minutes and urged them not to be a traditional pastor who does all the work and doesn’t equip others for ministry. He passed away about 6 hours later that day. Max’s service fulfilled Isaiah 42:12, which says Let them give glory to the Lord and proclaim his praise in the islands.
One day we will meet Max and the many disciples he made who are making more disciples for the glory of God’s name and renown throughout all the earth!

Grace and peace,

Dr. David Nelson
President and Founder

Message From the President

May 2019

In March I had the privilege of visiting our staff in Vietnam, Cambodia, Thailand, Myanmar, and India. In many of these countries, I watched our coordinators lead ministry. What a blessing it was for me to see them serve effectively. In Cambodia, I attended a Teacher Training Workshop (TTW). I led two sessions alongside Sitha, Cambodia National Director, who led the rest. I was encouraged and full of joy as I saw the Lord working through him. Here is a picture of one of the lessons during the workshop.

Sitha later wrote: “Pastor Timothy and his assistant acted out this event in Moses’ life (Exodus 17:8-16) during the TTW in Siem Reap last month. The staff Moses held up revealed his weakness, i.e. that he could not do it by himself and that he needed Aaron and Hur to stand with him. The ministry is like Moses’ staff; ministry is difficult and heavy, and it quickly reveals our weaknesses. We need other godly men to help us carry the load. No one person has all the gifts and abilities. Many times, we cannot see our personal weaknesses until we work with others.”

This demonstrates the effectiveness and necessity of godly men and women serving with CCI. Over 70 coordinators now serve with CCI – some of them are part time and some are full time.

When the Lord clearly opens the doors into a new country and we find that there are no “trained” trainers, we start by leading classes with a few key pastors. We teach them with the expectation that the Lord will work in their hearts to become future trainers. As these trainers develop and mature by teaching classes, God calls them to serve with us as area coordinators. As they prove faithfulness, we partner with them to become coordinators or directors over their country. In Cambodia, Sitha was once a teacher who proved faithfulness and now is the National Director.

In the picture above, we see two pastors acting out the part of Aaron and Hur holding up Moses’ hands. You can also hold up the hands of a servant leader like Sitha. Not only are we praying for the Lord to raise up godly coordinators, but also godly ministry partners who will pray, financially support, and go with us to visit these areas to see what God is doing and see how we can be involved. One ministry partner, Bud from PA, went with us two years ago and was encouraged when he saw the effectiveness of the CCI ministry model.

Will you be the Aaron and Hur for new coordinators who will implement the CCI mission, vision, and model?

God can use YOU to impact the world for the kingdom of God. Please consider making a monthly gift to support new national coordinators.

Message From the President

March 2019

Good morning from Albania. A few weeks ago, Aaron Issler and I went to American Samoa to lead a Teacher Training Workshop with pastors and leaders of Manumalo Baptist Church. Eight pastors and leaders successfully completed the training. The church is planning to start classes this month. They are ready to start and train up Christlike leaders.
One of the buildings you will see in American Samoa is the Samoan meeting house. They are either round or oblong. According to a pastor there, when clans meet together, every man has an assigned pole to stand near and every man knows where his place is located.
In Ephesians 4:11-16, we read that Christ gave gifted pastoral leaders to the church to equip “the saints for the work of the ministry.” One of the goals of this equipping is described in 4:16, where we read that the whole body will grow and become like Jesus Christ “when each part is working properly” (ESV). In other words, as each follower of Christ using his or her spiritual gifts serves in ministry and does his or her part, the whole church grows.
Each member is a minister. Each member has an important part in the body. As each person does his or her part, the whole body grows. What part do you play in the work of the Lord? If each part does not do his or her part, the body does not grow. Like the various posts in a Samoan meeting place, let us find our post and faithfully serve in the place and function God has given us. Aaron Issler did a great job helping teach the seminar. Aaron will be overseeing the future development and expansion of CCI ministry in America Samoa as one of his assignments. We are thankful for his leadership and faithfulness with CCI.

April 2019 Newsletter

Message From the President

April 2019

Good evening from Indianapolis! Keith Arnold (CCI missionary to Northern Mexico) and I are attending the Gospel Coalition annual conference this week. The conference focuses on clearly and passionately articulating the gospel in a postmodern world. In the last 20 years, America has drastically changed and according to Erwin Lutzer, we are like exiled Judah living in Babylon.

Last month, while training 25 church planters in Albania, I met Gusti. Gusti shared how he heard the gospel for the first time. Because his village was so remote, a helicopter brought the Jesus Film and a group of evangelists to his village. He heard about Jesus for the first time.
The majority of people today do not need a helicopter to bring the story of Jesus to them. They need faithful servants to bring the good news. In Colossians 1:7, we learn from Paul that Epaphras, a “faithful minister of Christ” proclaimed the gospel to them and the fruit of faith, love, and hope was produced in their lives (1:3-5).

When God’s faithful servants proclaim the gospel in the power of His Spirit, God through the gospel produces the fruit of faith, love, and hope.

This is the ministry of CCI – equipping faithful servants who will proclaim God’s wonderful news of Jesus in the power of His Holy Spirit!

Would you consider making a generous donation to help support NATIONAL COORDINATORS who will expand our ministry to new areas in Albania and other countries? Help us equip faithful servants who will proclaim the gospel and God will produce the fruit in the lives of people around the world for His glory!

February 2019 Newsletter

Message From the President

February 2019

Greetings from a hotel in LA! Aaron Issler, CCI Regional Coordinator over the Western USA, and I are in LA on the way to American Samoa tomorrow. This week we will be training pastors of Manomalo Baptist Church through our Teacher Training Workshop. Our goal is to see them equip growing disciples who will serve God in many capacities. As American Samoa has sent many men to play in the NFL, our prayer is to see the Church equip and mobilize missionaries throughout the South Pacific for the glory of God. Pray for God to multiply our efforts this week.

Recently I received some encouraging emails regarding our training. One was from a partnering ministry in India. He testified the following:

“We are so excited to see how things are going in India with the BTCP classes. We are so grateful for this partnership with you. The first group of students are doing wonderful. Steeven, our national partner, has really caught the vision for this after experiencing the classes and seeing what the students are being taught. He can’t wait to expand it to other areas where he is serving.”

Some of our classes are through partner ministries, like Shepherding the Nations, Crosspoint, Global Partners, and many indigenous ministries. Other classes are led by our team of coordinators.

One of our directors shared the testimony from one of his disciples:
“I longed to have a chance to take formal Biblical study for long time but no opportunity because of the conditions but now I am very happy and enjoy what I learn from the BTCP program. Since I have learned this I wish my own pastor and other pastors to study this too. We confess that our church is the traditional church and a pastor is the only one key person who will transform the church to be the kind of disciple making church.”

Pray that we can expand through both ministry models – through like-minded partner ministries and through our team. Our goal is to see the training multiplied throughout the world through discipleship relationships formed by our equipping classes through faithful men and women who handle God’s Word faithfully.

Grace and peace,

Dr. David Nelson

Message From the President

Greetings!

During Thanksgiving week, I had the privilege of visiting churches in American Samoa. Did you know that American Samoa is located over 2,500 miles south from Hawaii? There are several NFL players from American Samoa. On Thursday, I worshipped with Happy Valley Baptist Church, where members brought offerings of fruit and vegetables and testified about God’s goodness in their lives. After the morning service, we had lunch together, including turkey which is imported into the country. This was the first Thanksgiving I have ever celebrated like this.

On the following Saturday night, I attended the fourth BTCP graduation there. Pastors and leaders from around the island have graduated from the program. Pastor Elise Tafau has trained all of them. At 75 years old, Pastor Tafau is retiring next year to live in Hawaii. One of the graduates is Kamilo. Kamilo shared the following testimony: “When I first started, I couldn’t express myself, but now I can preach God’s Word because God’s Word has transformed my life. My father didn’t recognize me because of the change in my life. Before, I didn’t know anything in the Bible.

Men and women are being transformed, equipped, and mobilized for God’s work – the work of reconciling people to God through the church. Through your partnership, we can see more men and women like Kamilo transformed, equipped, and mobilized for God’s work. You have the opportunity of partnering with us before the year end. Message From the President

Greetings from New Zealand! Happy Thanksgiving! In just a couple of weeks, we will celebrate Thanksgiving. I will be in American Samoa celebrating Thanksgiving. We are exhorted to “give thanks in all circumstances; for this is the will of God in Christ Jesus for you” (1 Thess. 5:18). We are grateful to God for all He has done in 2018. There is much to celebrate in our family and in CCI. The Lord gave us our 5th grandchild in late July. Ashley had her second son, Stephen Jeremiah. We are thankful to see the Lord’s hand in our children and grandchildren’s lives. We are also grateful for the work the Lord has entrusted to us and all He is doing all around the world. We live in exciting days as we see the Church growing around the world.

Eight days after returning from our East Coast Tour with our 7 national directors, Mindy and l left for the Philippines. CCI Philippines team was having their 5th annual conference at Camp Karis, a camp managed by CCI Philippines in northern Bohol. Before the conference, we visited Guindulman Christian Bible Church, a church Mindy and I started along with Mark Silvers and Dick & Gloria Persons in the late 80s and early 90s. The church has grown over the years as children have grown up and had children. Many have moved and are working in other countries.

Everyone arrived on Monday from all over the Philippines. Twenty-eight people attended including coordinators, wives, and Camp Karis staff. I had the privilege of leading devotions this year. This year we focused on Isaiah 40: Trusting in the God who works and delivers with hopeful expectation.

Each day we listened to testimonies and reports of how God is equipping ordinary people to impact their community for the glory of God. Pastor Max Caindoy reported that 9 new churches have been started this year by students and graduates.

On Thursday, we left for three islands north of Bohol. Inhabitants on Tahungtahung live in houses on stilts in the shallow waters of the ocean. On another island, we met the pastor and his wife who have started a new church. The island does not have electricity or running water, so they have to go to the mainland for drinking water. At first the inhabitants didn’t accept them, but over time by demonstrating the love of God, they have been accepted and the church is slowly growing.

It is so humbling and encouraging to meet these brothers and sisters who, under so difficult situations, are trusting in the God who works and delivers with hopeful expectation.

Thank you for your partnership!

Grace and peace,

Dr. David Nelson

President and Founder

Message From the President

The tour has come to an end. In life, almost all good things must come to an end – as the saying goes. However, our relationship with God will never end, nor will our relationships with other believers ever come to an end. They will continue forever into eternity. This tour has given us a glimpse of eternity, where there will be followers of Jesus Christ from every language, tribe, and nation. By the time we arrive home, we will have traveled 7,000 miles. We have shared what God is doing in our lives with 25 churches, stayed in many homes, shared our ministry with many people, and have eaten many delicious meals (and gained a little weight!). We have shared life together – traveled together, laughed together, worshiped together, and prayed together. One thing that has impressed the men is how people welcomed them. They have experienced the love of Christ through God’s people. Read below how each of the men was impacted during the trip. Thank you for your partnership.

Grace and peace,

CCI SE Asia East Coast Tour 2018 Pictures & Testimonies

Things that impacted me about the people I met were:
Everyone’s humbleness, they served us in the best way by looking at Him.
Everyone lives a Christian life as an example. They just loved whoever we are, opened their hearts and houses without partiality, and gave generously.
I felt like I was at a home away from home. A home full of love, where ever I stayed.
People are faithful to God, even the small things they have committed to do for Him,
Their trust in God has been clearly seen in the relationship to His workmanship.
Last but not the least, I learned that people respect and value each other.

Thanks,
Khup, Myanmar Director

What did I learn from this trip to America:
We serve a great God and He keeps the promises to those who love Him …. God always provided for us with good things for our tour trip. From the first day we met many of God’s people who love Him and loved us. I felt loved and cared for from everyone. I saw many places where we learned the hard way to come to America today. The supporting church we have been involved with is engaged and cooperates with the mission of CCI. I will return to my country and will preach and teach Jesus Christ, to God be the Glory.

Glory to God,
Kittikun, Thailand Director

What I learned on this tour :
I have seen what God is doing in my neighboring country through the CCI ministry.
I have gotten to meet, know and build relationships with 6 national directors from SE Asia.
I have learned how CCI ministry impacts others and how it functions.

My impression :
CCI builds relationships with people and churches. I was surprised by all the support that CCI has had for many years because of these relationships.

Frids, Indonesia Director

I would like to thank you so much for allowing me to be part of this trip. Your prayers and help made it possible. It is such a blessing to me. My father’s spiritual growth is related so much to an American missionary. We are so grateful for what America’s churches have been doing in our country.
Being the first time of my life in America, I enjoyed so much and learned many things from this trip. I would like to pick up one thing I learn the most – building relationship. I admit that I am not good at building long relationship with people, even though I have many friends, and am known in many places. Since I have not known many here very much, Dr. David impacted me so much on this issue. He had been away from the country 14 years, and now he lives in Florida. However, he has good relationships with many pastors, churches, individuals and donors in different places. As a result, we were welcomed so much by many hosts, and treated kingly, even those people we met the very first time. People’s hospitality and generous giving surprised me so much.
I humbly learned from believers, and our president. I thank God for the blessings that he has given, and I promise to use wisely all resources we have for the advance of gospel and making disciple for Christ. In Christ,
Y Hanh, Vietnam Director

The biggest impression made on me on this tour is:
The Love of Christ has been shown through the lives of church people we visited, especially the hosts that opened their house for us to stay while we were in their city. I am very grateful for the grace of the Lord for the hospitality, generosity and kindness of God’s people. I realize that I am not alone when I am in the field to serve the Lord. There are many of God’s people who pray for me and support my ministry. Some of the church people and hosts had my family’s picture (prayer card) on their refrigerator! They pray for us every day before eating.
I felt and experienced the unity of Christ’s Body even though we are different, but in Christ we are really one. One God, one Holy Spirit, and Goal. Although there were some churches that we just met, it seemed like we have known them for a long time. We shared about our ministry and they were most interested and understanding.
For these make me love Jesus Christ more and be encouraged to serve Him in all situation.

Somsay, Laos Director

Hmong Translation

We praise the Lord Jesus Christ for a generous group of pastors and their churches in Kentucky who have a burden to help reach the Hmong people with the gospel and provide training for their pastors and church leaders. This group made a donation of $15,000 to cover the cost of translating the CCI Curriculum into Hmong language. The translation project will begin in October 2018 and hopefully, be completed with 2 years. This will be available for all the Hmong language speakers to study God’s Word and the CCI curriculum in their own language. There are over 1,000 Hmong churches in Vietnam alone. There are over 1 million Hmong in Vietnam. Over 9 million still live in China.

The Hmong people come from the mountainous areas in southern China. They date back about 3000 years on China. Due to political unrest and in search of farmland, they have now migrated to Vietnam, Laos, Myanmar and Thailand. This language is spoken by about 15 million people. Pray for this translation to be clearly understood and for God to open the hearts of many to receive Christ and be added to the church of the Lord Jesus Christ.
