Message From the President

Greetings!

During Thanksgiving week, I had the privilege of visiting churches in American Samoa. Did you know that American Samoa is located over 2,500 miles south from Hawaii? There are several NFL players from American Samoa. On Thursday, I worshipped with Happy Valley Baptist Church, where members brought offerings of fruit and vegetables and testified about God’s goodness in their lives. After the morning service, we had lunch together, including turkey which is imported into the country. This was the first Thanksgiving I have ever celebrated like this.

On the following Saturday night, I attended the fourth BTCP graduation there. Pastors and leaders from around the island have graduated from the program. Pastor Elise Tafau has trained all of them. At 75 years old, Pastor Tafau is retiring next year to live in Hawaii. One of the graduates is Kamilo. Kamilo shared the following testimony: “When I first started, I couldn’t express myself, but now I can preach God’s Word because God’s Word has transformed my life. My father didn’t recognize me because of the change in my life. Before, I didn’t know anything in the Bible.

Men and women are being transformed, equipped, and mobilized for God’s work – the work of reconciling people to God through the church. Through your partnership, we can see more men and women like Kamilo transformed, equipped, and mobilized for God’s work. You have the opportunity of partnering with us before the year end. Click the button below and give for the glory of God.

Grace and peace,

Dr. David Nelson

Message From the President

Greetings from New Zealand! Happy Thanksgiving! In just a couple of weeks, we will celebrate Thanksgiving. I will be in American Samoa celebrating Thanksgiving. We are exhorted to “give thanks in all circumstances; for this is the will of God in Christ Jesus for you” (1 Thess. 5:18). We are grateful to God for all He has done in 2018. There is much to celebrate in our family and in CCI. The Lord gave us our 5th grandchild in late July. Ashley had her second son, Stephen Jeremiah. We are thankful to see the Lord’s hand in our children and grandchildren’s lives. We are also grateful for the work the Lord has entrusted to us and all He is doing all around the world. We live in exciting days as we see the Church growing around the world.

Eight days after returning from our East Coast Tour with our 7 national directors, Mindy and l left for the Philippines. CCI Philippines team was having their 5th annual conference at Camp Karis, a camp managed by CCI Philippines in northern Bohol. Before the conference, we visited Guindulman Christian Bible Church, a church Mindy and I started along with Mark Silvers and Dick & Gloria Persons in the late 80s and early 90s. The church has grown over the years as children have grown up and had children. Many have moved and are working in other countries.

Everyone arrived on Monday from all over the Philippines. Twenty-eight people attended including coordinators, wives, and Camp Karis staff. I had the privilege of leading devotions this year. This year we focused on Isaiah 40: Trusting in the God who works and delivers with hopeful expectation.

Each day we listened to testimonies and reports of how God is equipping ordinary people to impact their community for the glory of God. Pastor Max Caindoy reported that 9 new churches have been started this year by students and graduates.

On Thursday, we left for three islands north of Bohol. Inhabitants on Tahungtahung live in houses on stilts in the shallow waters of the ocean. On another island, we met the pastor and his wife who have started a new church. The island does not have electricity or running water, so they have to go to the mainland for drinking water. At first the inhabitants didn’t accept them, but over time by demonstrating the love of God, they have been accepted and the church is slowly growing.

It is so humbling and encouraging to meet these brothers and sisters who, under so difficult situations, are trusting in the God who works and delivers with hopeful expectation.

Thank you for your partnership!

Grace and peace,

Dr. David Nelson

President and Founder

Message From the President

The tour has come to an end. In life, almost all good things must come to an end – as the saying goes. However, our relationship with God will never end, nor will our relationships with other believers ever come to an end. They will continue forever into eternity. This tour has given us a glimpse of eternity, where there will be followers of Jesus Christ from every language, tribe, and nation. By the time we arrive home, we will have traveled 7,000 miles. We have shared what God is doing in our lives with 25 churches, stayed in many homes, shared our ministry with many people, and have eaten many delicious meals (and gained a little weight!). We have shared life together – traveled together, laughed together, worshiped together, and prayed together. One thing that has impressed the men is how people welcomed them. They have experienced the love of Christ through God’s people. Read below how each of the men was impacted during the trip. Thank you for your partnership.

Grace and peace,

Dr. David Nelson

CCI SE Asia East Coast Tour 2018 Pictures & Testimonies

Things that impacted me about the people I met were:
Everyone’s humbleness, they served us in the best way by looking at Him.
Everyone lives a Christian life as an example. They just loved whoever we are, opened their hearts and houses without partiality, and gave generously.
I felt like I was at a home away from home. A home full of love, where ever I stayed.
People are faithful to God, even the small things they have committed to do for Him,
Their trust in God has been clearly seen in the relationship to His workmanship.
Last but not the least, I learned that people respect and value each other.

Thanks,
Khup, Myanmar Director

What did I learn from this trip to America:
We serve a great God and He keeps the promises to those who love Him …. God always provided for us with good things for our tour trip. From the first day we met many of God’s people who love Him and loved us. I felt loved and cared for from everyone. I saw many places where we learned the hard way to come to America today. The supporting church we have been involved with is engaged and cooperates with the mission of CCI. I will return to my country and will preach and teach Jesus Christ, to God be the Glory.

Glory to God,
Kittikun, Thailand Director

What I learned on this tour :
I have seen what God is doing in my neighboring country through the CCI ministry.
I have gotten to meet, know and build relationships with 6 national directors from SE Asia.
I have learned how CCI ministry impacts others and how it functions.

My impression :
CCI builds relationships with people and churches. I was surprised by all the support that CCI has had for many years because of these relationships.

Frids, Indonesia Director

I would like to thank you so much for allowing me to be part of this trip. Your prayers and help made it possible. It is such a blessing to me. My father’s spiritual growth is related so much to an American missionary. We are so grateful for what America’s churches have been doing in our country.
Being the first time of my life in America, I enjoyed so much and learned many things from this trip. I would like to pick up one thing I learn the most – building relationship. I admit that I am not good at building long relationship with people, even though I have many friends, and am known in many places. Since I have not known many here very much, Dr. David impacted me so much on this issue. He had been away from the country 14 years, and now he lives in Florida. However, he has good relationships with many pastors, churches, individuals and donors in different places. As a result, we were welcomed so much by many hosts, and treated kingly, even those people we met the very first time. People’s hospitality and generous giving surprised me so much.
I humbly learned from believers, and our president. I thank God for the blessings that he has given, and I promise to use wisely all resources we have for the advance of gospel and making disciple for Christ. In Christ,
Y Hanh, Vietnam Director

The biggest impression made on me on this tour is:
The Love of Christ has been shown through the lives of church people we visited, especially the hosts that opened their house for us to stay while we were in their city. I am very grateful for the grace of the Lord for the hospitality, generosity and kindness of God’s people. I realize that I am not alone when I am in the field to serve the Lord. There are many of God’s people who pray for me and support my ministry. Some of the church people and hosts had my family’s picture (prayer card) on their refrigerator! They pray for us every day before eating.
I felt and experienced the unity of Christ’s Body even though we are different, but in Christ we are really one. One God, one Holy Spirit, and Goal. Although there were some churches that we just met, it seemed like we have known them for a long time. We shared about our ministry and they were most interested and understanding.
For these make me love Jesus Christ more and be encouraged to serve Him in all situation.

Somsay, Laos Director

Hmong Translation

We praise the Lord Jesus Christ for a generous group of pastors and their churches in Kentucky who have a burden to help reach the Hmong people with the gospel and provide training for their pastors and church leaders. This group made a donation of $15,000 to cover the cost of translating the CCI Curriculum into Hmong language. The translation project will begin in October 2018 and hopefully, be completed with 2 years. This will be available for all the Hmong language speakers to study God’s Word and the CCI curriculum in their own language. There are over 1,000 Hmong churches in Vietnam alone. There are over 1 million Hmong in Vietnam. Over 9 million still live in China.

The Hmong people come from the mountainous areas in southern China. They date back about 3000 years on China. Due to political unrest and in search of farmland, they have now migrated to Vietnam, Laos, Myanmar and Thailand. This language is spoken by about 15 million people. Pray for this translation to be clearly understood and for God to open the hearts of many to receive Christ and be added to the church of the Lord Jesus Christ.

September 2018: The Person God Uses

Message From the President

The tour has begun! Everyone arrived around August 21 and since then we have had many opportunities to share what CCI is doing in SE Asia. We have already made presentations with a group of businessmen, six churches, participated in a BTCP orientation, shared at a missions dinner, listened to a professional guitarist (David Speegle) sing worship songs to the Lord, canoed on the Hillsborough River, watched the Tampa Bay Rays beat the Boston Red Sox 10-3, and enjoyed fellowship while breaking bread with many loving believers. We have witnessed many people encouraged, challenged, and moved to tears by the testimonies of our 7 directors. Many have prayed for each of our men for God’s provision, protection, and power. Continue to pray for us on this journey. If you live near one of these places listed below, please come to see and hear what God is doing!

Grace and peace,

Prayer Needs & Praises

CCI Philippines

Pastor Manny and Linda Gocon

Praises

  • Praise God for two Teacher Training Workshops Pastor Manny conducted this week. Ask God to lead each participant to start a BTCP class in their church.
  • Praise God, too, for a new BTCP class which began this week in Sto. Domingo, Nueva Ecija.

Prayer Requests

  • On September 4, Linda will begin a ladies’ Bible study with house helpers from the missionary community around the Cainta/Taytay/Antipolo area.  The study has been ongoing for about 15 years, so Linda will just take it over, but she plans on training them in evangelism and discipleship.  There may be some non-believers who are new to the group, so pray for discernment on her part.
  • Pray for the church in Apalit. The land title we hold is worthless since the man who sold the land to us lost the case against his siblings. Apalit Bible Christian Church is pursuing getting its money back from him, so pray he will pay it all back. One of our elders is also going through a serious ordeal right now; please pray for him, Dr. Jay Torres.

Pastor Max Caindoy

  • Pray for a student in Valencia who was diagnosed with stage 2 cancer.
  • Bohol Alumni Association review of goals and directions
  • Perseverance of our Alumni to teach classes, especially in the new pioneering areas
  • Students and CCI partners to have clear goals and directions for their ministries.

Pastor Dement Sumagang

  • Pray that my wife and I could join the national conference in Bohol in October.
  • Pray for more funds, trainings, classes, TTWs, volunteer teachers, and more churches to accept the CCI trainings.
  • Pray for more partners to become involved in class book financing, for many of the students cannot fully afford the increasing price of Cebuano manuals.

Leo De Leon

  • Please pray for my health, I’ve had colds for a week, had a fever for a day and am now having itchy rashes. The doctor said I have “tigdas hangin” but she said it has no effect on our baby. Please pray that our baby will still be healthy despite my health condition. Please pray for normal delivery and normal development of our baby.
  • Please pray for my laboratory tests this Aug. 25. May all results be normal and we will also have ultrasound to know the gender of the baby.
  • Please pray for our upcoming national conference this October 22-27, 2018 at Camp Karis, Bohol. Pray for provision, protection of the staff who will be attending and the preparations.

August 2018: All About Worship

Message From the President

It’s all about worship!  We were created to worship our Creator. He deserves our worship because He created and redeemed us for His glory (Rev. 4:11; 5:9-10). This became crystal clear during my visit to the Akha tribe in northern Thailand last month. As the senior pastor of the Akha group stood and shared about the training center, tears poured down his face as he shared that the center had not been used in 10 years and today was the beginning of a new era in their ministry.

From July 22-26, Thai Director Kittikun Meetang and I visited Karen, Akha, and Lao classes. On July 23, seventy-five teachers, graduates and students gathered in western Thailand for worship and instruction in the Word. Karen Coordinator Chatri has trained three groups of Karen believers through the BTCP training. Chatri, along with three of his students, are leading three new classes.

In Northern Thailand on July 25, we visited the Akha class. The class has 7 students, but another 60 attended to observe the class. After the class, they decided to start many classes. Later in the evening, we gathered for fellowship and worship. The only problem is that our curricula has not been translated into their language. Please pray for the translation of our curricula into Akha.

Then on July 27, we attended the graduation of a class of 20 pastors and leaders from Laos. Six of them are from the Hmong tribe. Several could not come due to the difficulty of crossing the border. Praise God for His work among the Lao people through CCI Laos director Somsay!

Through CCI, God is gathering people from every tribe, nation, language, and culture to know Him through His Word and worship Him in spirit and in truth. One day as we gather around the throne of God, you’ll be able to meet these precious lives and hear how God redeemed them and used them for His glory. Thank you for your prayers and generous giving to the Lord through CCI for the work of making disciples of all nations (Mt. 28:16-20).

July 2018: Spiritual Freedom

Message From the President

Freedom. Yesterday we celebrated 242 years of freedom in this United States. Our freedom has come at a great cost – and still continues to come at a great cost. Religious and political freedom are values that not every country of the world enjoys. We should not take them for granted. Rejoice with us in the freedoms the Lord has given to us.

Likewise, spiritual freedom – from sin and the law – came at a great cost, i.e. through the death of our Lord Jesus Christ. Through His sacrifice on the cross, we are eternally free from our sin debt to serve the true and living God.

Last month, I had the privilege of training 21 pastors in South Asia whose religious freedoms are being challenged. We equipped them with the Teacher Training Workshop over 3 days to equip church leaders – Christlike servants who will train Christlike servants. We equipped them with the biblical teaching of discipleship and equipping servant leaders and the BTCP (Bible Training Centre for Pastors) 10 course curriculum Here are some of their testimonies:

“We were looking for a curriculum to use in our churches and this curriculum gives clear contents and vision for our leaders.”

“I learned how to make disciples.”

“This training is very systematic and very helpful to effectively equip and edify the churches where we live.”

“I give thanks to God for this workshop. I plan to use the skills from this seminar for our Bible college, churches, and small groups.”

Church work is like carpentry – a good carpenter needs good tools and needs to know how to use those tools. The tool we equipped them with is both doable and effective in their culture and churches.

Have a wonderful freedom celebration!

Dr. David Nelson

President and Founder
