Recent Crisis: Severe Flash Flooding & Glacial Collapse in Nepal
On August 26, 2026, a massive slope failure and glacier collapse on Langtang Lirung in Langtang National Park triggered a kinetic impact equivalent to a 5.2 magnitude earthquake. The resulting torrent of water, ice, and debris rushed nearly 100 km downstream, overwhelming the Gyirong Port border crossing and devastating settlements across the Lende Khola and Trishuli River valleys.
The catastrophic disaster has left at least 919 people dead and more than 4,700 missing, sweeping away entire villages and destroying critical infrastructure. The local church community has been hit particularly hard:
-
9 churches in the region have been directly affected, with hundreds of believers and 3 local pastors missing.
-
In Rasuwa alone, where CCI partners closely with two local churches, approximately 30 believers remain unaccounted for.
CCI teams and local ministry partners are actively serving on the ground. A local pastor in the lower area near Trisuli is providing shelter and food to displaced families and children.
CCI Nepal is transporting emergency relief shipments into the region despite severe road blockages. Supplies being delivered include:
-
Solar Charging Units
-
Mosquito Nets
-
Cooking & Kitchen Equipment
-
Sanitary Kits & Medical/Relief Support Teams
